Born in Savannah, GA. Attended Virginia State College. He was the Band Leader with The Lionel Hampton Orchestra for eleven years and also played with The Dells, Kool and the Gang and Roberta Flack. He was inducted into the South East Coast Jazz Hall of Fame in 1994. Ed draws on his experience as the Cotton Club's Co-Band Leader of the Cotton Club All Stars
