Bobby began playing drums at the age of 12, and started his first band along
with his two best
friends. The band (Black Image) later became well known in the
Baltimore/Washington area.
After high school, his music teacher, John Lamkin, formed a jazz-fusion group
called Chain
Reaction. They played along the East coast at various clubs in New York and
Washington. At the
Cotton Club in New York he had to fill in as drummer for Dexter Gordon when his
drummer
became ill during a show. Back in Baltimore, he formed an R&B group called Image
with the rhythm section from Black Image. He, along with "Scrib" were original
members of Keith Soul and the Rollex Band, a very popular group in the
Baltimore-Washington area. In 1994, he joined The Manhattans as a back-up
drummer, and in 1995 became the premier drummer for the group. He performed as a
musician in the play "Tambourines to Glory" as a member of the group Priority.
