Upon graduating from Florida A&M University, Al, as he is called to his family and friends started playing trumpet with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra. After some years (with Hamp) he left to become the Musical Director for (Melba Moore). While with Melba, Al became a school Teacher (Music Major in Collage) and after 32 years of service in the school system, he retired in 1999. Al is the Low-key member of the group he doesn’t speak much, but when he does it’s always on point. Al was instrumental in getting involved with a city program that showcased the Talent of underprivileged children; the name of the program was called “Showcase Of Dreams”. He got help from Sonny to co-write the theme song of the program, and various help from other members of the Manhattans to make this program a success. Al is currently the bandleader of the Cotton Club Orchestra, and he oversees the musical personnel that accompany the Manhattans. Al serves as VP for Manhattan Entertainment Inc where all 5 members of the Manhattans are partners. Al is the bass singer of the group keeping that rich traditional sound that fan’s knows as a very big part of the Manhattans.
